RV Meteor M61/1
Oceanlab members Alan Jamieson, Amandine Heger, Ben Wigham and Nicola King worked on the research vessel Meteor from April 19th (Lisbon) till May 05th (Cork) 2004. Their focus was the use of the ISIT camera which was mounted on a GEOMAR Modular Lander.
The ISIT camera is rated to 6000m and can record bioluminescent events because of its very high light sensitivity. The camera was programmed to record after the lander reached the seafloor. It was focussed on a 0.5kg mackerel bait, with an LED in the field of view to compare the intensity of the bioluminescent events with that of a knownsource. At timed intervals a white light illuminated the field of view so that video recordings of potential Biolumenscent organisms could be obtained.
Also the Oceanlab ROBIO lander to take time-lapse still images of communities associated with Lophelia.
